The Quiet Strength of Choosing Kindness: A Perspective from a Christian Lawyer in Georgia

Every day, we’re faced with moments that test who we are. Some are small—an irritating comment, a long line at the store—while others hit when we least expect them, like the flashing blue lights in the rearview mirror.

As a Christian lawyer in Georgia, I have seen how a single moment can change the course of someone’s day—or their future. And more often than not, that moment comes down to how we choose to treat others, especially when we feel frustrated or unfairly judged.

A Story About Marcus and a Georgia Traffic Stop

A few months ago, a man I’ll call Ricky was driving home from work in Cherokee County. He’d had a long day, and after missing a turn, he drifted slightly over the fog line. Moments later, a patrol car lit up behind him.  Ricky swore under his breath. He was sure he hadn’t done anything wrong. By the time the officer walked up to the window, Marcus was irritated, defensive, and ready for battle.

What he didn’t know was that the officer had just come from a difficult scene involving a young driver. Both men were carrying weight the other couldn’t see.

Ricky raised his voice. The officer responded tersely. Within seconds, the situation escalated—and Ricky ended up with a citation he likely wouldn’t have received had the conversation gone differently.

When Ricky later contacted my office, he wasn’t really asking about the citation. He was asking why everything had gone sideways.

Responding With Grace—Even When It’s Hard

In my practice, I see situations like this often. And the truth is simple:
Our words matter.
Our tone matters.
Our restraint matters even more.

Scripture says we should be “quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to become angry.” Whether you’re religious or not, that’s wisdom most of us could use during a Georgia traffic stop.

Staying calm doesn’t mean surrendering your rights. You can still ask questions. You can still disagree. You can still challenge a citation later. But when the moment is heated and emotions are high, choosing courtesy can change the entire outcome.

What I Believe as a Christian Lawyer in Georgia

My faith doesn’t make me perfect. It doesn’t give me all the answers. But it reminds me of the things that matter:

  • Treat others with dignity, even when it’s difficult.

  • Speak with honesty and respect.

  • Respond with patience when tempers flare.

  • Remember that every person—officer or driver—is carrying something unseen.

Again, I don’t claim to have all the answers and we have all lost our cool at times and made the outcome worse.  In the courtroom, at home, or during a Georgia traffic stop, I remind clients that their peaceful response may be the most powerful tool they have.

If You’re Facing a Traffic Issue in Georgia

I can’t promise you that if you stay completely calm when you are pulled over that you won’t receive a citation.  But I can just about GUARANTEE that if you lose your cool, you WILL get a ticket and you may get a free ride to the jail.

If a traffic stop has led to a citation or a situation you don’t feel was handled fairly, you don’t have to navigate it alone. Understanding your rights—and how the law works in Georgia—can make all the difference. Having an experienced lawyer to represent you takes it off your mind knowing someone else is working on it.
